Employee Benefits - Time Off
DISABILITY INSURANCE
An
employee is eligible for Long-Term
and Short-Term Disability insurance
the first of the month following one
month of employment if he/she is
budgeted to work at least 32 hours
per week.
Long-Term Disability Insurance (LTD)
Long-Term Disability insurance
coverage is provided to an employee
at no cost and provides him/her with
income protection if he/she becomes
disabled. After an employee has been
disabled for 90 days, the LTD Plan
will cover 70% of the employee’s
basic monthly earnings (not to
exceed $15,000 per month), less
other income benefits.
Short-Term Disability Insurance
(STD) After an employee has been disabled
for seven days, the Short-Term
Disability insurance plan will cover
60% of his/her basic weekly earnings
(not to exceed $2,000 per week),
less other income benefits. Premiums
for the STD Plan are paid by the
employee.
PAID TIME OFF Bon Secours Health System, Inc.
provides employees with paid time
off in the form of vacation,
holidays, personal days, care/sick
leave, bereavement leave, jury duty,
and volunteer time.
VACATION All full-time and part-time
employees earn annual Vacation days
according to their position, regular
hours worked, and length of service.
Full-time benefits are as follows:
- Administrative/Support Staff: 10
days (up to 20 days)
- Technical/Supervisory Staff: 15
days (up to20 days)
- Director and Above: 20 days
Part-time employees earn a pro-rated
share of the full-time vacation
accrual rates. A new employee is
eligible to use accrued vacation
time after completing his/her first
three months of employment.
HOLIDAYS Each year, employees receive eight
paid holidays:

PERSONAL
DAYS
All full-time and part-time
employees earn five Personal days
each year. Personal days begin
accruing immediately and can be
taken as accrued.
CARE
LEAVE/SICK LEAVE
All full-time employees are provided
14 Care Leave/Sick Leave days each
fiscal year. Part-time employees are
provided a pro-rated share of the
full-time benefit. Care Leave/Sick
Leave can be used by an employee for
his/her own illness, the illness of
a family member, doctor
appointments, unavailability of
child care, and any situation
covered under the Family and Medical
Leave Act (FMLA).
FAMILY AND
MEDICAL LEAVE ACT
Eligible employees may take up to 12
weeks of unpaid family or medical
leave within a rolling 12-month
period. In order to qualify for FMLA
leave, the employee must have been
employed by BSHSI for at least 12
months or 52 weeks and have worked a
minimum of 1,250 hours during the
12-month period immediately
preceding the commencement of the
leave.
An eligible employee may take family
or medical leave for any of the
following reasons:

The birth of a child, to care for
the newborn child, or for placement
with the employee of a child for
adoption or foster care;

To care for the employee’s spouse,
child, or parent who has a serious
health condition (as defined by the FMLA); or
-
Because of a serious health
condition which renders the employee
unable to perform job functions.
BEREAVEMENT
LEAVE
All full-time and part-time
employees are provided up to three
days of paid bereavement leave when
an employee suffers the death of an
immediate family member.
MILITARY
LEAVE
Employees who serve in the uniformed
services are entitled to a military
leave of absence from their
positions, subject to the
limitations and restrictions set
forth in federal and state law.
Employees must provide advance
notice of their military service and
a copy of official military orders,
unless doing so is impossible or
unreasonable under the circumstances
(e.g., military emergency).
JURY DUTY
When required to serve on jury duty,
an employee will be paid for
scheduled time lost as a result of
the duty (at the regular base rate
of pay), up to a maximum of ten days
of paid leave.
VOTING TIME
Employees are encouraged to exercise
their voting privilege in all
elections. Employees who do not have
two hours of continuous off-duty
time while the polls are open may
take up to a maximum of two hours
off with pay in order to vote.
VOLUNTEER
TIME
Each fiscal year, employees will be
provided two days of paid release
time to participate in BSHSI-sponsored
volunteer projects.
