The Vice President Patient Care Services/Chief Nursing Officer is responsible for directing the management of the Patient Care Services Division, including quality and care management, nursing, emergency, cardiology, and respiratory therapy provided by the Hospital. The Vice President Patient Care Services / Chief Nursing Officer is responsible for leading the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the above noted services; and for the direction, supervision, efficiency, cost effectiveness, and the development of new services and programs for the Hospital. As a part of the operations management team in providing leadership, the Vice President Patient Care Services/Chief Nursing Officer must participate in the strategic planning and ensure the development, implementation and evaluation of policies, programs and services which are consistent with the Hospital's mission, strategic plans, resource allocation, management plan, medical staff relations and other activities for appropriate coordination of patient care needs. The Vice President Patient Care Services/Chief Nursing Officer has the authority and responsibility for establishing standards of nursing practice that include policies and procedures, nursing standards of patient care and standards of nursing practice in coordination with registered nurses and other designated nursing staff.
Must be a graduate of an accredited program of professional nursing. A master's degree is required. Must possess current license as a Registered Nurse from the State of Virginia or awaiting reciprocity. Work requires experience with organizational and hospital operation; coordination of multiple patient care units; service delivery to varying patient populations; and nursing care techniques and methods. Requires in depth and up-to-date knowledge of current theoretical approaches to the delivery of care and strategies for examining and applying relevant concepts and knowledge to practice and patient care.
Previous work experience in financial management, strategic planning, physician relations and personnel supervision and practice is required. Work requires previous experience evaluating delivery of care systems and nursing results; responding to deficiencies by identifying and implementing corrective actions; developing and administering sound policies, procedures, and budgets; and collaborating with a variety of internal and external contacts, as generally acquired through more than seven years of experience in a professional nursing management position.
