Sr. Alice M. Talone Elected President Of
Sisters Of Bon Secours, USA
At
the Sisters of Bon Secours Provincial Chapter meetings in
Marriottsville, Maryland, in September, Sr. Alice M. Talone was elected
president of the United States Province. Also elected to the Province’s
Leadership Team were Sr. Rose Marie Jasinski, a senior vice president of
Sponsorship for Bon Secours Health System, who was elected vice
president; Sr. Elaine Davia, nurse practitioner in Florida; Sr. Anna Mae
Crane, community organizer for the Jeremiah Project in Portsmouth,
Virginia, and Sr. Mary Shimo, coordinator of Volunteers/Auxiliary for
Bon Secours Hospital in Baltimore.
Sr. Alice was born in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, and entered the
Congregation of the Sisters of Bon Secours in 1961. She received her
R.N. degree from the Bon Secours School of Nursing and her BSN from the
University of Pennsylvania. She also earned a Master’s Degree in
Pastoral Ministry from Trinity College in Washington, D.C.
She has held many positions in the Bon Secours Baltimore Health System
including staff nurse, patient advocate, chaplain, and vice president of
Mission. She served as pastoral associate at St. Veronica’s Church and
St. Bernadine’s Church, both in Baltimore. Sr. Alice was also a staff
nurse at St. Edmond’s Home for Crippled Children in Rosemont,
Pennsylvania.
In 1991, Sr. Alice initiated the Ministry of Health Care Parish Liaison
in Baltimore. This ministry, which is supported by the Sisters of Bon
Secours in collaboration with Bon Secours Baltimore Health System,
serves the sick, suffering, poor and dying in their homes and parishes
by facilitating and monitoring the delivery of physical and spiritual
care and emotional support as well as health care counseling and
referral, health education and screening services for parishes in West
Baltimore.
Describing her ministry as a Health Care Parish Liaison, Sr. Alice says,
“My gifts lie in being in the community. As a parish nurse serving poor,
urban churches I find that I live out being good help to those in need.
God directs me all the way, and I truly believe through my service and
various encounters that all is providence and that God touches me
through the people with whom I minister.”
Sr. Alice has served the Sisters of Bon Secours by being on its
Leadership Team for the past 8 years as well as serving as the
Province’s Vocation Director. She has held positions on many Bon Secours
local system boards to include serving as sister president of Bon
Secours Maria Manor and a director of Bon Secours Michigan Health
System. She is currently president of Bon Secours Baltimore Health
System and a member of Bon Secours Health System Board of Directors.
Sr. Alice has been involved with the Archdiocese of Baltimore as a
member of the Archdiocese Pastoral Associates Association and the
Diocesan/Religious Gifts Committee to restore the Basilica in Baltimore.
She also serves on the Catholic Health Association’s Sponsor Committee.
As Sr. Alice takes the helm of the Sisters of Bon Secours, USA, she
reflects on her new ministry by quoting the scripture of St. Paul, “ I
can do all things in God who strengthens me.” Phil. 4:13
